NORTHFIELD — In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon mission, Dickinson Memorial Library will host “Moon & Stars: Songs of Celestial Bodies” on Saturday, July 20.

The themed concert, which is set for noon, will cover six decades of popular American songs, according to an event press release. The Celestial Jazz Trio will perform, led by Sarah Clay (vocals/flute), with Draa Hobbs (guitar) and Steve Bulmer (upright bass) forming the rhythm section.

“The moon and the stars are universal symbols of eternity, love and longing,” Clay said of the concert’s theme. “Who hasn’t gazed at the moon and wondered if a distant loved one could see it, too?”

Known for nuanced expression and crystalline tone, Clay delivers fresh, playful interpretations of jazz, blues and “Great American Songbook” tunes, the release states. A member of the music faculty at Holyoke Community College, she has performed at jazz festivals and concert halls on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

Funding for the event is provided in part by a grant from the Northfield Cultural Council. The concert is free and open to the public.
