BUCKLAND — Due to an oversight by the town, Mohawk Trail Regional School District School Committee Chairwoman Martha Thurber was not told her term was up this year, so she did not run for re-election.

To fix the issue, the Buckland Selectboard and remaining School Committee member David Parrella will elect a candidate as part of the board’s meeting on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Town Hall. The candidate will fill the spot for one year, until next year’s election.

Thurber has thrown her hat into the ring, but no other candidates have come forward as of Thursday morning, Administrative Assistant Sherry Clark said.

The Selectboard will interview the interested candidates during the meeting before voting, as was town counsel’s suggestion, according to Selectboard Chairman Zachary Turner.

Those interested in running for a one-year term on the School Committee should submit an “appointment to town boards, committees and commissions form” to the Selectboard by 2 p.m. Friday. The form is available at the Town Hall and on Buckland’s website.
