The Massachusetts Society of Certified Public Accountants (MSCPA), the professional association of CPAs for Massachusetts previewed what an accounting career future would look like for 55 students, including one student from Franklin County Technical School at its “Is Accounting for Me?” conference at UMass Amherst on April 26.
Abigail Corey, a senior from Franklin County Technical School was selected by her teachers to attend the conference, which included interactive accounting exercises and workshops, discussions about accounting careers and CPA services, information about college programs and student life, and a networking lunch with college students, faculty and CPA practitioners.
She also got the chance to hear from professional CPAs about their careers and to talk to current college accounting students about their coursework and experience. Corey also took part in an interactive game called “Catch me if you can: Fraud Bingo” at UMass Amherst’s computer lab in the Isenberg School of Management.
Amy Pitter, president and CEO of MSCPA, said programs like this are crucial in building and sustaining a pipeline of young people interested and passionate about the profession.
The MSCPA also offers a free membership to students, giving them access to the 11,000-member organization and career counseling, scholarship opportunities and summer programs.
Cassandra Morrey has been promoted to the position of vice president and residential lending officer at Greenfield Savings Bank with responsibilities of daily oversight of the Residential Lending Department including origination, process, closing, quality control and compliance. She joined Greenfield Savings Bank in April 2010 after working in the banking industry for 17 years.
“Cassie is an outstanding member of our residential lending department,” said Lori Grover, senior vice president and senior residential lending officer of Greenfield Savings Bank. “Customers love working with her and she is committed to helping our customers achieve home ownership.”
Morrey is an active volunteer in the community including serving as a board member and as Treasurer of Highland Ambulance EMS, Inc., and as a fourth-to sixth-grade girls basketball coach.
Morrey, born in Haydenville, is a graduate with honors of the New England School for Financial Studies and Hampshire Regional High School. She lives in Goshen with her husband, James, and her two daughters, Addison and McKenna.
Michael E. Tucker, president and CEO of Greenfield Cooperative Bank announced that the Board of Directors has approved two promotions.
Brandon S. Lively was elected executive vice president of information systems. Lively has over 22 years of banking experience and joined Greenfield Co-operative Bank in 1999. In his role at the bank he is responsible for the bank’s electronic banking department and information systems and online security and managing the staff that handle these areas.
He received his AS degree in information systems from Greenfield Community College and is a graduate of numerous systems related programs and certificates. He has been active with the United Way allocations panels and several other groups. Brandon and his family reside in Greenfield.
Anthony J. Worden was elected executive vice president and senior commercial loan officer. Worden has over 20 years’ experience in the commercial lending and has been with GCB since 2008. He is a 1996 graduate of the University of Massachusetts with a B.A. in Business Administration, he received his MBA from UMass-Amherst in 2005 and also graduated from the Stonier Graduate School of Banking at the University of Pennsylvania in 2017.
Worden’s focus is to manage the bank’s commercial lending arm.
He is active with the Greenfield Cable Advisory Committee and the Turners Falls Downtown Working Group. He and his family reside in Greenfield.
