The Recital Chorus, under the direction of Margery Heins with Accompanist Amy Roberts-Crawford, will perform a free spring concert of vocal and choral music on Friday, May 17, at 7:30 p.m. at Trinity Church, 17 Severance St. in Shelburne Falls.
The chorus will present a variety of music from the medieval period to the present, including folk songs, madrigals, rounds, spirituals, songs from musical theater and works by Dowland, Hassler, Caldara, Handel, Schubert and Pioneer Valley composer Clifton “Jerry” Noble.
There are small and large ensembles on the program. Solos will be performed by several singers; featured will be John Atkinson of Greenfield and Octavia Crawford of Shelburne Falls.
The Recital Chorus is made up of Heins’ private voice students — students within the Mohawk Trail Regional School District, Greenfield Community College students and adults from the local community. All students study solos in their lessons and focus on the importance of ensemble singing as they become members of the Recital Chorus.
Heins is also the director of the Greenfield Community College Chorus and the Ashfield Congregational Church Choir. Roberts-Crawford, a familiar pianist, organist and director of musical theater in the Pioneer Valley, is also organist at the First Congregational Church of Ashfield.
