By not turning over Trump’s tax returns Steve Mnuchin is in contempt of Congress. Richard Neal set a firm deadline to furnish Trump’s taxes and the language of the law is clear that the IRS *shall* turn over the requested returns. Under U.S. Code § 7214 Mnuchin may be charged for violating the law in this case. I urge Sen. Markey, Rep. McGovern and Sen. Warren to not wait for the Executive Branch to commit more crimes to cover things up. We should use the sergeant at arms of the U.S. House of Representatives and take action. We must hold Trump and his appointees accountable for their crimes and their flagrant willingness to ignore the law.
