CHARLEMONT — A car heading west on Route 2 collided with a tractor-trailer in the center of town early Friday evening, sending the car’s driver to the hospital by Life Star helicopter ambulance.
The extent of the injuries and other details, including identities of the drivers were not immediately available. Charlemont police are investigating.
A portion of Route 2 was rerouted Friday night because of the accident, according to Charlemont Police Sgt. Jason Pelletier.
People traveling east were sent to East River Road and people traveling west were sent up Route 8A before they reached the center of Charlemont. The westbound lane opened up about 90 minutes after the 6:15 p.m. accident.
Life Star helicopter landed at Mohawk Trail Regional School around 6:45 p.m. Colrain ambulance transported the patient to the high school. The helicopter took off around 7:40 p.m.
First responders from the town of Florida assisted on the scene. Shelburne Police were at the high school to assist with the Life Star.
