BUCKLAND — William Street is set to be reconstructed.

The town has already secured one Community Development Block Grant in budget year 2018 for the first phase of the project, and is applying for another grant for this year to finish it off.

“It’s been on their list of streets that needed attention,” Linda Overing of Breezeway Farm Consulting said.

The Selectboard voted on Wednesday to support a contractor, GEG Construction, to do work for the first phase of the project. This phase, priced at $562,000, involves improving drainage systems, replacing a main water pipe, building new sidewalks and curbs, and reconstructing the road.

The Selectboard also voted to support a Community Development Block Grant application to fund the second phase of the project, expected to cost $239,000. This phase is similar to the first. Work includes upgrading the main water pipe, improving drainage systems, rebuilding roadside curbs and reconstructing the road.

The block grant will also seek $25,000 in funding for a local food pantry, Community Action.

Work on part one of the William Street project is expected to begin this spring, Overing said.
