COLRAIN – Police are still investigating an accident in which an unnkown driver abandoned a red pickup after sliding off South Green River Road Sunday.
The truck, registered in Arizona, was reported stolen in Greenfield to the Greenfield Police Department Sunday morning, according to Colrain Sgt. Roger Williams. The Greenfield police are handling the investigation.
Williams said by the time he arrived at the scene at 9:21 a.m., the driver had vanished and the vehicle was sitting in a road-side culvert, tipped on its side, balancing on a tree-stump.
Conditions on the road were icy in places, but also well-sanded, Williams said. The crash occurred near a “sharp left-hand turn,” he said.
“They were just going too fast to negotiate the turn,” Williams said.
