I’ve lived in Greenfield for more than 65 years. I’ve paid taxes for more than 55 years. I’m now retired, a homeowner and living on a fixed income.
I can’t remember the last time I needed to use the library. If I need to find information on a subject or read a book I just Google it. Didn’t we just pay for a new affordable internet system? Give every household a laptop and cheap access to the internet and we would save millions? We wouldn’t need a new library.
Also, wouldn’t it make more sense to build a new fire station before you build a new library? Question, why does a library cost $19 million and a fire station only $10 million. That just doesn’t seem right. Which is more important to the community?
It also sounds like one of the reasons for building a new library is so people can get together to socialize and discuss world events. Isn’t that why we built the community center?
Until this library situation came up, I didn’t realize how much I and the rest of the homeowners are being taken advantage of. Greenfield has one of the highest property tax rates in the state and is the second highest in the county. What are we getting for our money?
Why would any new business want to move here when they can move to any other town in the county where the tax rate is less?
Pay off our debt, reduce our taxes and find projects that benefit all the people and not just a few.
