Senior Chloe Taddeo won the shot put for the second consecutive meet, posting a season-best throw of 29 feet, 5 inches, to help Mahar Regional School improve to 6-2 on the season with a pair of wins over Athol and Pioneer as Smith College hosted PVIAC Indoor Track Meet No. 3 Friday evening in Northampton.

The Senators picked up a 72-23 win over Athol, and also knocked off Pioneer, 67-28.

Taddeo, who also won the shot in the second meet of the year before the holiday break, bested the field by over a foot, as Chicopee Comp’s Sophie Warren was the runner-up with a toss of 28-4¾.

The Senators received plenty of big performances en route to the sweep. Seventh-grader Carra Fitzgerald was at the forefront. The youngster competed in all three distance events, a difficult proposition, and posted top 5 finishes in each event. Fitzgerald was the runner-up in the 2-mile, posting a time of 12 minutes, 46.45 seconds, and added a fourth-place showing in the 1,000 meters (3:32) to go with a fifth-place finish in the 1-mile (6:09.47).

Mahar junior Kamryn Reilly was also a top five finisher in three events. Reilly took third in the 55-meter dash (7.94 seconds), third in the high jump (4 feet, 11 inches) and fourth in the long jump (15-2½). Senior Jordyn Berry was next in the high jump in fourth place (4-7), while senior Anna Wetherbee was the runner-up in the long jump with a top leap of 15-8.

Other top finishes for the Senators included freshman Caroline Chase’s fifth-place performance in the 600 (1:54.80) and classmate Grace Rich’s seventh-place in the 2-mile (14:06.75) to pair with an 11th-place finish in the 1-mile (6:38.88). Emma Savoy was another Mahar freshman who ran well, taking eighth in the 2-mile (14:07), and sophomore Aileen Fitzgerald tossed in an 11th-place showing in the high jump (4-3).

The Mahar 4×200 relay team made it a memorable night as well. The quartet of Reilly, Chase, Wetherbee and Carissa Johnson set a new school record in the event, crossing with a time of 2:00.67 to finish fifth overall as a team.

Athol’s top finisher in that meet was junior Grace Dufour, who was the 300 meter runner-up with a time of 47.21 seconds. She was also 10th in the long jump.

Other Red Raiders in the top 10 included Sadey Lehtomaki (10th, 55 meter), Shelby Mailloux (10th in 600, 9th in high jump), Rashell Dalmau-Gonzalez (8th, shot put) and Analyse Merlini (9th, shot put).

Mohawk 57, Commerce 32

Buoyed by senior Meghan Davis, who ran to a pair of top 3 showings, Mohawk went 1-0 Friday thanks to a win over Commerce. Davis was the runner-up in the 1,000 meters (3:15.27) and added a third-place performance in the 1-mile (5:29.79). Old foe Emily Boutin of Pope Francis won both events.

Mohawk’s Lily Wickland-Shearer took fifth in the 55-meter hurdles (10.30) and 11th in the long jump (13-6½). Freshman Erica Szewczyk also had a nice meet, taking third in the 2-mile (12:56.77) and seventh in the 600 (2:00.73). Freshman Caitlin Upton was eighth in the mile and 11th in the 1,000, and seventh-grader Sierra Upton took sixth in the 2-mile and 12th in the 600.

Sophomore Skylar Cohen notched a seventh-place finish in the 55-meter hurdles (11.05) and a 12th-place showing in the 300 meters (51.00), helping Pioneer post a 1-2 mark on the day.

Senior Avery Kelton paced her team with a seventh-place finish in the high jump, clearing 4-5, and teammate Laila Heilman, an eighth-grader, also broke the top 10 in the 1-mile thanks to a time of 6:29.48. Sophomore Liesel Nygard was 11th in the 55-meter hurdles to go with a 16th-place showing in the long jump. Sydney Unaitis was 15th in the long jump and 16th in the 1,000.

Greenfield 57, Hampden Charter 38
Ludlow 53, Greenfield 42 —
Lulu Calame and Victoria Marin helped Greenfield split a pair of meets against Hampden Charter and Ludlow.

Calame, an eighth-grader, paced things in the distance events as she was fourth in both the mile (6:21.34) and 2-mile (13:09) in the late session. Marin, a sophomore, was third in the long jump with a leap of 15-5, and followed that up with a seventh-place showing in the 55-meter hurdles (10.47) and 11th-place finish in the high jump (4-5).

Freshman Kaylah Eggsware took 14th in the shot put and 15th in the 300, while classmate Emmaline Thurston nabbed 10th in the 1,000 and 14th in the 600.

Greenfield 91, Hampden Charter 3
Greenfield 49, Ludlow 45 —
Junior speedster Crescens Iavorschi was the runner-up in the 55-meters for the second meet in a row, and his trio of top 10 finishes in the late session helped Greenfield sweep a pair of dual meets against Hampden Charter and Ludlow, Friday.

Iavorschi was the runner-up in the 55 thanks to a time of 6.90 seconds, and took fourth in the 300 (39.68) to go with a ninth-place finish in the long jump (17-10).

Freshman Theodor Popusoi also cracked the top 10 in three events. His best finish came in the 55-meter hurdles, where he was the third-fastest in the event with a time of 9.42 seconds. Popusoi was also eighth in both the high jump (4-11) and long jump (18-00).

Senior Tyssen LaBombard paced the distance team with a ninth-place showing in the mile (5:13.32), with classmate Elijah Stathis taking 11th in the 2-mile (12:06.13).

Pope Francis 59, Pioneer 35 —
Senior Scott McDonough remained perfect through three meets in the long jump, as he was the winner yet again Friday thanks to a top leap of 20 feet, 5 inches. McDonough’s win led Pioneer to a 2-1 mark on the day, putting the Panthers 4-2 overall on the season.

McDonough followed that with a fifth-place finish in the 55 meters (6.92) in his other action of the meet.

Several Panthers contributed to the team’s 2-1 day. Ben Taylor was eighth in the 1,000 (3:19.10) and eighth in the 55-meter hurdles (10.62), Jake Wallace was eighth in the high jump (4-11), Jake Comiskey was seventh in the shot put (34-11), Gavin Curtis was 10th in the 600 (1:39.29), Manny Little was 10th in the 2-mile (12:05) and Jack Loud was 11th in the mile (5:27.90).

Athol 77, Mahar 17 — Senior Dennis St. Jean was fourth in the 2-mile (11:10) and junior Anthony Marcucci nabbed fifth in the 1,000 (3:00.21) to help Athol take care of business over rival Mahar in its lone dual meet Friday.

St. Jean was also ninth in the 600.

Junior Colby Soltysik finished sixth in the high jump with a top leap of 5-1. Teammate Parker Deleo was ninth (4-9).

Mason Barrieau finished seventh in the long jump and seventh in the mile to help the cause, and Colby Hume took 11th in the shot put.

Mahar was paced by freshman Liam O’Donnell, who ran to a fifth-place finish in the 2-mile (11:21.85). Sophomore Camdyn Johnson was 11th (12:07). O’Donnell was also ninth in the 1,000 (3:19).

Mohawk 38, Commerce 38 — Behind freshman Dennis Simmons’ third-place finish in the 2-mile (11:03.84), the Warriors ran to a 38-38 final against Commerce in their lone meet Friday.

Simmons added an eighth-place finish in the mile (5:17.26).

Senior London Summers came through with a fifth-place showing in the shot put (35-8½), while freshman Cullen Brown nabbed two top 10s in the 55 meters (10th, 7.16) and 300 (sixth, 39.6).
