Kidleidoscope Fridays: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Come each week to learn about our wildlife neighbors who share our home in the Connecticut River Watershed. Upcoming programs focus on bears on Oct. 19 and bats on Oct. 26. Kidleidoscope is a free child-friendly, hands-on environmental experience for young children. Tree Identification Using Bark and Habitat Clues: Saturday, Oct. 20, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Join naturalist Nancy Goodman to take a close look at trees and other botanical wonders; become familiar with the characteristic bark of different trees in different habitats; and learn to identify them from leaves and other clues. Bring water, a trail snack, sturdy walking shoes, binoculars if available, and the book “Bark” by Michael Wojtech, if you have a copy. The walk is approximately 1½ to 2 miles long with an elevation gain of 250 feet. Advance registration is required by calling 800-859-2960. Free.
Sunset and Hunter Moon Nighttime Adventure: Sunday, Oct. 21, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. This evening walk on the wide, forested trails at Northfield Mountain will celebrate the night and the natural world in fall. Program includes sensory activities focused on the changing light, wildlife adaptations and seasonal abundance. Dress in layers for this 1- to 1½-mile hike with approximately 150 feet of elevation gain. Advance registration is required by calling 800-859-2960. Free.

Birding with Josh Rose: Saturday, Oct. 20, 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Explore the various habitats on the Greenfield farm and look for bird species with Rose, an avid birder with a lot of knowledge to share.
