GREENFIELD — A Greenfield man was charged with assaulting three police officers during the booking for his arrest on an unrelated charge of assault and battery from earlier Friday night.
Sean Martin, 42, of Mohawk Trail in Greenfield pleaded not guilty to five charges — assault and battery, strangulation, intimidation of a witness and two counts of assault — during his arraignment in Greenfield District Court Monday.
Martin was held in jail because he could not make the $100 bail. He is scheduled to be back in court Sept. 6 for a pretrial conference hearing.
Police responded to a report of domestic violence around 9 p.m. Friday. Martin was allegedly in an altercation resulting in significant lacerations to the forehead and index finger of the other person involved, according to court documents. Martin also allegedly choked the individual.
During the booking process, Martin got upset with how the police were handling the situation, court documents state.
When Martin was brought in for the booking process, he reportedly was not complying with the arrest. Police decided to place him in a restraint chair, and while doing so, Martin allegedly began to kick and push three Greenfield police officers, resulting in the two assault charges. None of the officers reported injuries from the incident.
