Gary Gronokowski defeated Paul Agrillo 6-2, 6-2 in the first round of the West County Cider Beacon Classic Tennis Tournament Monday night at Beacon Field Courts in Greenfield.
Gronokowski advances to face Tim Prevost in today’s quarterfinals.
Henry Hardy earned a trip to the quarters after he defeated Joe Sabella 6-1, 6-1 on Monday. Hardy moves on to face Brian Lamore. Chris Seaver topped Ken Hubbard 6-1, 6-2 on Monday and moves on to face Kyle Maroni tonight. Dave Deherdt bested Paul Beaulieu 6-0, 6-1 in the opening round and moves on to face Trevor Bross.
Mixed Doubles Tournament
The Greenfield Tennis Association is holding a Mixed Doubles Tennis Tournament Saturday at Beacon Field Tennis Courts.
The tournament begins at 9:30 a.m. and entry fee is $10 per team and an unopened can of tennis balls. All fees go toward court maintenance and equipment.

Montague Co-Rec
Dan Drumgool went 5-for-5 with five runs scored to lead Business & Pleasure to a 28-16 win over Johnson Controls in a Montague Co-Rec Adult Softball League game Monday at Unity Field in Turners Falls.
Caroline Payne scored four times in the win. Chris Desautels also slugged a home run as part of a 4-for-6 performance.
Dan Hamburg went 4-for-4 in the loss, and Erin Kelly went 3-for-5.
CCG Ladies
Elaine Goodhind shot a 43 to win the First Flight during the Loud Tournament of the Monday Night Ladies League at the Country Club of Greenfield.
Sue O’Connor finished second with a 44. Jane Smith and Michelle Hazlett tied for first place in the Second Flight. Anne Corrinet won the Third Flight with a 46, while Lora Gross was second with a 47, and Karen Duclos won the Fourth Flight with a 42, while Anne Lyman was second with a 47. Sue Luippold won the Fifth Flight with a 51, and Irene McDonald was second with a 53, and Sue Parker won the Sixth Flight with a 56.
The league also held a Longest Drive, Closest to the Pin and Fewest Putts Tournament. Smith won the long drive in the First Flight, while Goodhind was closest and Ann McHugh had the fewest putts. Duclos won the long drive in the Second Flight, while Lori Grover was closest, and Angie Bergquist had the fewest putts. In the Third Flight, Parker won the long drive, and Sue MacDonald had the fewest putts.
Mark K. Memorial
Tim Lang, Brian Watrous, Ron Aleman, John Kaczenski and Lisa Virgilio shot a 61 to win the Mark K. Memorial Mixed Golf League Monday night at Oak Ridge Golf Club in Gill.
John Boguslawski, Wayne Prohaska, Glen Rathburn and Erik Oakes shot a 61 but were relegated to second place following a match of cards.
DRIVE Men’s League
Evan Bruso scored 14 points over the weekend, and Steve Cooley added 13 to lead Bruso Computer Solutions past The Mohawks, 57-41, in a DRIVE Hoops Men’s League basketball game.
Tim Hoar led The Mohawks with 13 points, and Austin Reid added 12.
• Meanwhile, Taylor Armstrong poured in 35 points as Sandri edged Whitney Fence, 79-77.
Justin Ciaglo added 10 points in the win. Tyler Martin paced Whitney Fence with 24 points, while Tucker Llewelyn added 18.
• In other action, Dan Donoghue netted 33 points, and Robin Marchese tossed in 27 as Donoghue Realty bested Team DRIVE, 85-76.
Nick Seretta scored 29 points in the loss, and Angelo Thomas had 23.
• Finally, Ben Johnson and Chris Brown both scored 15 points as Team No Name dumped the Woo Crew, 67-42.
Tyson Dowdy notched 18 points in the loss.
Bridge of Flowers sign-ups
Registrations are still being accepted for the 40th annual Bridge of Flowers Road Race Classic, which takes place Saturday in Shelburne Falls.
Online registrations can be done at www.shelburnefalls.com until Wednesday night. In-person registrations will also be accepted Friday night during the free spaghetti supper, as well as on the morning of the race, each at at the Buckland/Shelburne Elementary School.
Anyone completing the 8K classic will be awarded a medallion to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the event.
Montague Mug
The 38th annual Montague Mug Race will take place Aug. 18 at 8:30 a.m. from the Montague Center Common.
The race is 5½ miles long and pewter mugs are awarded to the top male and female finishers. Coffee mugs go to the top three finishers in each of the eight divisions. A 2-mile run was added 14 years ago as well.
Runners can register at runreg.com until 3 p.m. on Aug. 17, and can also register on the day of the race beginning at 7:30 a.m.
Cost is $25 and benefits the Old Home Days and the Montague Center Firefighters Association.
