McKenzie Paulin and Ashley Taylor each had two hits and two RBIs on Tuesday but the North All-Stars dropped a 18-8 decision to the South All-Stars in the Suburban League 12U All-Star game at the Sacred Heart Sports Complex in Agawam.

Paulin (Greenfield) and Taylor (Frontier Red) joined Molly Gates (Frontier Blue) and Margarette Howland (Greenfield) as players with two hits on the day in the loss. Jess Campbell (Frontier Red), Sofia Holden (Greenfield) and Madison McKemmie (Frontier Blue) each added RBI singles in the loss. Holly Myers (Frontier Red), McKemmie, Holden and Paulin each pitched one inning for the North.

In the Skills Competition, McKemmie belted 11 home runs to win the home run derby. Briana Storozuk (Frontier Red) came in second with five home runs, and Holden placed third with three.

The Frontier Red team of Taylor, Hailey Hutkoski, Arianna Miller and Lucia Doulette won the base running competition.

Youth baseball

TFAC survives

Nate Fuess drove in Joe Boyden with the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth inning as Turners Falls Athletic Club outlasted Smitty’s Pub, 19-18, in the loser’s bracket semifinals of the Franklin County Babe Ruth Baseball League Tuesday at Beacon Field in Greenfield.

TFAC will face Akey’s Insurance tonight at 5:30 in the loser’s bracket finale with the winner advancing to Saturday’s championship game at 11 a.m. at Abercrombie Field to face Parody Builders, which advanced out of the winner’s bracket of the double-elimination tournament. Whichever team faces Parody’s, will have to beat the Builders twice to win the championship. If Parody’s loses on Saturday, the winner-take-all title game would be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Abercrombie.

Smitty’s held a 18-14 lead heading to the bottom of the sixth, but Boyden drove in Trevor Lapinski with the game-tying run before Fuess singled Boyden home with the winner. Fuess finished 2-for-4 two two RBIs, while Noah Uzdavinis went 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Lapinski went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, Jake Safford went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, and Gillis MacDougall had a pair of hits. Fuess also struck out one in a scoreless top of the sixth inning to earn the win in relief.

Austin Wrisley went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs in the loss, while Alex Gochinski went 2-for-4 with three RBIs.

Golf

Knights of Columbus

Bill Chalmers won the point quota at plus-6 during the Knights of Columbus Golf League at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club on Wednesday.

Steve Brown, Rich Heath and Alan Wondoloski tied for second at plus-5.

Brian Browning was closest to the pin on No. 7 at 7 feet, 9 inches, while Rod Herzig was closest on No. 9 at 16-7.

Timmons League

Albert Chaney and Norm LaCoy shot a low gross 35 during the Timmons League at Northfield Golf Course on Wednesday.

Rodney Ebbighausen and Scott Powers were second with a 36. Neil Black and Lloyd Grover won low net with a 25, while Duff Delano and Pete Blake were second with a 30. Ebbighausen and LaCoy were match medalists with a 39.

Black was closest to the pin on No. 6 at 9-11, while Delano was closest on No. 7 at 16-6.

Soccer

CVSOA course

The Connecticut Valley Soccer Officials Association will conduct an instructional course during August for those interested in becoming referees.

The CVSOA members officiate soccer games in Hampshire and Franklin counties during the fall season. Candidates must be 18 years of age and pass a national background check. The course consists of five, two-hour classes conducted in Deerfield during evening hours. Cost is $50.
