Youth Track & Field: For six Mondays this summer (July 9, 16, 23, 30 Aug. 6 and 13) the Y is offering a track and field program for 3- to 16-year-olds. The program meets at Mohawk High School on the rubberized track. The events are age appropriate with 50- to 200-meter sprints, mile run, long jump, shot put (ball throw), discus, etc. See Page 6 of the summer “Brochure” at ymcaingreenfield.org for details. The nightly fee is $5 per child. Register at the track each night.

Summer Full Day Preschool: The Y has a few five-day openings and a few Tuesday/Thursday openings for

summer preschool. There are two air-conditioned classrooms, an outdoor play area, basketball court and pool.

School hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; also available is early care from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and late care from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Call Lisa at 773-3646, ext. 431, to schedule a tour. Camp Apex for ages 5-14: Camp Apex is the Y’s outdoor camp located just three miles west of the rotary on Peckville Road. The camp facility is top notch with a solar-heated pool, nature center, craft building, modern bathhouse, two picnic shelters, archery, sports field, obstacle course, hiking trails, gentle stream and more. The camp operates nine weeks this summer with weekly themes and several specialty themes. The camp is for boys and girls ages 5-14 (5-year-olds who have completed kindergarten); kids are divided into groups by age. The camp has an overall ratio of eight kids per staff member. Sports Camp for ages 6-14: The Y offers a sports camp with eight weeks of sport choices for boys and girls ages 6-14. All abilities are welcome. There are half-day options from 9 a.m. to noon or noon to 4 p.m. and full-day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sport options include basketball, recess games, gaga/dodgeball, flag football and multi-sport. The camp uses the Y’s air conditioned gym, pool, game room and Kid-Fit Center. Some financial aid is available. See “Camp Brochure” at ymcaingreenfield.org for full details or call 773-3646, ext. 0. Teacher Appreciation Summer Memberships: As a thank you to the hard-working teachers and paraprofessionals in Franklin County, the Y is offering a special summer deluxe membership for $50. The membership is valid until Sept. 2 and includes the Nautilus Center, group exercise classes, lap swimming, weight room, Farr Cardio Center, Jacuzzi and more. Bring a current school photo ID. Membership can be upgraded to a two-adult household membership for $80 and two-adult family for $100. Call 773-3646 with questions.

YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program: In the YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program a trained lifestyle coach introduces topics in a small classroom setting and encourage participants as they explore how healthy eating, physical activity and behavior changes can benefit their health. The 12-month group-based program consists of 16 core sessions, followed by monthly maintenance sessions led by a trained lifestyle coach who facilitates a small group of people with similar goals. Free Y membership for attendance participation. A federal grant may cover up to 100 percent of the fee if income eligible; for example, single person income less than $17,000 per year and family of three, $29,000 or less. The Y’s Sliding Fee Scale is also available and can cover 20-70 percent of the fee. Next class meets Thursdays at 5 p.m. beginning in July.
