WENDELL — The town clerk is accepting nomination papers to fill Jeoffrey Gavin Pooser’s vacant Selectboard seat this fall.

The Special Election will be held on Sept. 4, in order to coincide with the state primary election on the same day, said Town Clerk Gretchen Smith.

Those interested in running for the position should obtain nomination papers at the town clerk’s office before Friday, July 13.

Nomination papers must be signed by the required number of registered Wendell voters and submitted to the Board of Registrars by Tuesday, July 17.

Pooser, 47, announced his resignation abruptly on June 14, just over a month after being re-elected to a three-year term on May 8. His last day on the Selectboard — after nine years in town government — will be June 27.

Pooser has been unreachable for comment, but sent out an email to residents explaining that family is what motivated him to resign.

“There is only so much time in the day, and my plate has been overwhelmingly full for years now,” Pooser said. “It has become clear to me that at this point in time, I need to prioritize and focus on my family.”

Pooser added that it was a “difficult decision, because I truly love the town.”

The last Selectboard meeting before the vacancy will be June 27, but it is unclear whether or not Pooser will attend. According to Smith, the Selectboard requested that she schedule the special election.
