TURNERS FALLS — The 13th century will be back for a visit at Montague’s annual Mutton and Mead Festival.
Young and old can enjoy watching armored knights joust on horseback; be entertained by jugglers, sword fighters, singers and more and stroll the paths of the Sherwood Forest for one magical weekend.
Mutton and Mead is a fictitious tavern set in a fictitious shire in England that has come to life once a year since 2011 and brings together food, fun, theater and entertainment with a special medieval flair.
Attendees are encouraged to come in costume as fairies, sprites, knights, medieval townspeople and more. Modern attire is welcomed, too.
Visitors can also enjoy mead, ales, smoked turkey legs, baked goods and other medieval fair foods including, of course, roasted mutton.
Other entertainment will include live falcons, trained rats and cats, drum and bagpipe music, Shakespeare, archery and much more.
The event will take place at the Millers Falls Rod and Gun Club at 210 Turners Falls Road from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Attendees can bring two non-perishable food items for a $1 festival token, but are limited to three tokens per ticket.
Adults can get tickets at the door for $15. Youth ages 6 to 17 are $12, as well as those 55 and up. Parking is $5 per car.
