GREENFIELD — Four fires kept area firefighters busy Monday evening, as multiple calls reporting fires in the city came within roughly a half hour of one another.

Greenfield Fire Department received six reports of fires in the city Monday, beginning at 5:48 p.m. According to Greenfield Fire Chief Robert Strahan, a total of four fires were found by his department and Turners Falls Fire Department.

No property loss was reported and no injuries occurred following the fires, according to Strahan.

Strahan said the four fires included two small brush fires that were caused by a train on the railroad tracks, as well as a chimney fire and another fire outside that were both accidental.

The two brush fires were located on Chapman Street and Hope Street, according to Strahan.

The chimney fire was reported on Bernardston Road and the outside fire was reported on Federal Street, he said.

In addition to Turners Falls, Deerfield and South Deerfield fire departments also responded to help provide coverage while Greenfield firefighters were out. Multiple off-duty Greenfield firefighters were also called in to assist.
