Diabetes Care Program: A comprehensive diet, exercise and education program for people who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Many diabetics can reduce the amount of medication they need to take through exercise and diet. The program consists of three basic small group exercise classes per week, weekly weigh-ins, initial body measurements, food journaling and healthy eating presentations. Held in the private Fit Life Center. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 to 4 p.m. or 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m. Eight weeks of classes are free for Y members and $99 for program associates and nonmembers. For more information, call Dawn at 773-3646, ext. 428.
Youth Swim Lessons: The last eight-week session of youth swim lessons runs April 23 to June 17. There are lessons for children ages 3 to 14, from beginner to advanced classes. This is a great time for children to improve their swim skills and water safety knowledge before summer. Registration is now open. See page 14 of the “Brochure” at: ymcaingreenfield.org or call 773-3646, ext. 0, for more information.
Session Five Classes: Registration for the April 23 to June 17 session of classes is now open. This is the last session before summer and a good time for children to improve their swim skills. Classes for youth also include gymnastics, soccer and basketball skills for three age groups (4- to 5-, 6- to 8- and 9- to 12-year-olds), Ninja Challenge and parkour. Classes for adults include water fitness and therapy, Diabetes Care Program, basic strength training and scuba. See the “Brochure” at: ymcaingreenfield.org or call 773-3646, ext. 0, for details.
10 Percent off Camps: On Saturday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Y is offering a special camp sign-up day. Camp directors will be available to help parents plan a fun, exciting summer for their 4- to 14-year-olds. Parents will get a 10 percent discount on whatever they pay that day for full-price camps and summer early/late care (no other discount apply). Parents can select a few weeks of fun at the Y’s three summer camps or a whole summer of childcare. The Y offers two indoor camps and outdoor Camp Apex. See the “Camp Brochure” at: ymcaingreenfield.org for camp forms and more information.
Scuba: Once a year the Y offers a NAUI scuba course taught by Dave McDonald. The class meets on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6 to 9 p.m., starting April 24. Course fees are $350 for Y members and $385 for nonmembers. Call 773-3646, ext. 427, with questions.
Annual Campaign: The Y’s Annual Sustaining Campaign will run until the end of April. All of the funds raised help sustain the Y, a locally funded nonprofit charity, and provide about one-third of the $425,000 in financial aid the Y provides to local children, families and seniors each year so they can participate in Y programs and camps. Please send tax deductible donations to YMCA Annual Campaign or use the “donate” button at: ymcaingreenfield.org.
2018 Summer Camps: The Y’s 2018 Summer Camp Brochure is now available with camps for 4- to 14-year-olds. The Y has two indoor camps, sports and gymnastics, that each provide a full-day or half-day option. Camp Apex, the Y’s outdoor camp, has nine weeks to choose from, each with a fun theme. Apex also has seven specialty camps for 8- to 14-year-olds. There is also early and late care available so parents can have dependable childcare all summer. The Y provides $70,000 in financial aid thanks to donations from the Annual Sustaining Campaign, Y Kids to Camp Golf Tournament and the United Way of Franklin County. See the “Camp Brochure” at: ymcaingreenfield.org or stop by the Y for more information.
