Community Health Center of Franklin County is naming scholarships after the late Dr. Sarah Kemble, the center’s founder, physician and executive director.

Three scholarships will be awarded in honor of Kemble. Scholarships will be awarded to two graduating seniors from the seven high schools in the health center’s service area, Greenfield, Mohawk, Pioneer, Turners Falls, Franklin Tech, Mahar and Athol high schools. Additionally, one scholarship will be awarded to a local veteran. The veteran scholarship has been created specifically in recognition of Kemble’s efforts as the chief medical officer at the Leeds VA Center to ensure quality health care for veterans.

“It was her vision, passion, and commitment to ensuring access to quality health care for all that made her dream a reality,” states a press release. “Without her passion to secure health care for all, the Community Health Center would not have been created and would not now be providing medical and dental care to more than 7,000 medical and dental patients in Franklin County and the North Quabbin area.”

Funding for these scholarships will be secured through donations that can be made to the Sarah Kemble Scholarship Fund, care of the Greenfield Savings Bank.

Scholarship applications will be available at local veterans organizations and to the above named high schools as of this week. The deadline for submitting applications is May 1. The scholarship forms and requirements can also be found on the Health Centers website.
