In a crowded field of Democratic hopefuls candidates for a 1st Franklin Massachusetts House seat, candidate Jonathan Edwards has won the endorsement of local municipal officials.
Edwards, who chairs the Whately Selectboard and is president of the Franklin County Selectboard Association, announced this week that he has received the backing of that Sunderland Selectboard members Tom Fydenkevez, Scott Bergeron and David Pierce, along with Sunderland School Committee member Keith McFarland, along with the endorsement of Leverett’s Peter d’Errico.
Edwards, a 14-year member of the Whately Selectboard, worked closely with his Sunderland counterparts in revitalizing the South County Senior Center and
in creating the South County Emergency Management Service
“I am humbled by the show of support from these five distinguished local leaders in Franklin County,” said Edwards, who touted his record of building collaboration and fostering regional partnerships. “There is almost 50 years of local government experience among them, and they all know the value of selectboard experience and how important it is that our next state representative understand local issues.”
Montague Democrat Francia Wisnewski announced Wednesday that she had become the first of eight candidates to have her nomination papers certified by local voter registrars to be on the Sept. 4 primary ballot in the 1st Franklin House District,
“I’ve been working hard to meet people throughout the district, and to get the support needed to get my name on the ballot,” said Wisnewski, who collected “dozens more” than the 150 minimum certified signatures required to be submitted to the secretary of state’s office by May 29.
Wisnewski serves as chair of the Hampshire-Franklin Commission on the Status of Women and is a member of the Montague Town Meeting and the Montague Democratic Committee. She also serves on the boards of the Shea Theater and Leadership Pioneer Valley. Before moving to Montague, she served two terms on the Greenfield School Committee, including a term as vice-chair, and served as a state Democratic delegate.
