Monette will have photographic show on Sept. 22

ATHOL — New Salem resident Dale Monette will present a photographic show, “Secret Lives of the Quabbin Watershed,” starting at 7 p.m. at the Athol Historical Society at 1307 Main St. on Sept. 22.

Many of Monette’s photographs appear in his forthcoming book, also titled “Secret Lives of the Quabbin Watershed,” set to be released by Haley’s Antiques & Publishing in Athol later this month.

Admission is free but donations, which are tax-deductible, are appreciated.

Copies of “Secret Lives of the Quabbin Watershed” will be on sale at $29.95 per copy after the program, which is supported in part by a grant from Athol Cultural Council through the auspices of Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. Monette will autograph copies.

Regional planning task force has two meetings scheduled

ORANGE — The Ralph C. Mahar Regional School District was awarded a $53,000 Efficiency and Regionalization grant from Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito’s office in the spring and will use the money in a regional planning task force, which will have its first meetings on Sept. 25 and Oct. 23 in the Eileen Perkins Library Media Center at the Ralph C. Mahar Regional School.

The grant is designed to provide financial support for governmental entities interested in implementing regionalization and exploring other efficiency initiatives that allow for long-term fiscal sustainability.

Laflamme going to Chicopee; Seo promoted to full-time

ORANGE — At their Sept. 13 meeting, members of the Orange Selectboard granted a civil service transfer of officer James Laflamme to the Chicopee Police Department.

Orange Police Chief Craig Lundgren said Laflamme is one of his best officers and he will be sorely missed.

Also, reserve officer Jungfil Seo was promoted to a full-time officer.
