Pushing his son Everett in a stroller, Isaac Bingham still managed to outrun the rest of the field during Thursday night’s Northfield Summer Road Race Series with his time of 21 minutes, 13 seconds in the 3.3-mile race in Northfield.

Amy O’Sullivan came in second place at 21:32, while Mike Townsley took third in 21:37. Jeff Broadhead came in fourth in 24:51, one second ahead of Jason Pratts, who took fifth in 24:52. Robin McKeon (25:15) was sixth, Scott Organ (25:50) was seventh, Neal Gifford (28:34) took eighth, Noah DeRuiter (28:34) was ninth, and Nick DeRuiter finished 10th.

There are three more races in the series, taking place at 6 p.m. with registration, and a race start time of 6:30. As always, cost is $4 per person and a max of $10 per family, and members of fall high school sports teams run free. Prizes are awarded to all participants, and walkers are welcome to start the course early.

WMass 18U tryouts

The Western Massachusets Warriors 18U travel softball team will hold tryouts on Aug. 21 at the Bourdeau Fields Complex at Turners Falls High School from 6 to 8 p.m.

The team is being coached by former Turners Falls player Jenna Putala. The team will play in tournaments and college recruiting showcases next summer and is open to players from any town. Players must be 19 or under on Feb. 1, 2018. If possible, players should bring birth certificates to tryouts.

Ashfield Ladies

Francie Hall earned top honors Thursday, registering the lowest total (20) at the Ashfield Community Golf Club Ladies League in a game of even holes.

Hall also won the fewest putts for the entire round of nine holes with 13.

Bernardston Rec

The Bernardston Recreation Department is now accepting registrations for youth soccer. Forms are available at the Town Hall and will also be available at Cushman Library. Completed forms may be dropped off Monday through Thursday, or mailed to the Recreation Department, 38 Church Street, Town Hall, Bernardston, MA. 01337.

Players in grades 3 through 6 must be registered by Sept. 1 to participate in the Youth Soccer League. Players in grades pre-K through 2 are also encouraged to register early.

Registration nights will be held at the town hall on Aug. 28 and Sept. 1 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Early registration is encouraged.

Don Maynard Race

The 23rd annual Don Maynard 5-Mile Road Race and 3-Mile Walk is scheduled for Sept. 16 at the Green River Swimming & Recreation Area.

Bridge of Flowers

Registrations continue for the 39th annual Bridge of Flowers 10K Classic and 3K Charity Race on Saturday in downtown Shelburne Falls.

Montague Mug Race

The 37th annual Montague Mug Race is scheduled for Aug. 19, with the 5.5-mile road race “blasting” off at 8:30 a.m. from the Village Common.

Pewter Mugs are awarded to top male and female finishers, and coffee mugs will go to top finishers of each division. T-shirts are given to the first 90 runners. The course is well marked with plenty of water stops, and features a few challenging hills with a run along the Connecticut River.

Now in its 13th year, the Mini Mug Race will kick off at 8:35 a.m. This course measures two miles and is a great scenic route around the Old South Cemetery. Both races will finish at the ball field. All runners are entered into drawing for local prizes.

Old Coach A 5K

Registration is underway for The Old Coach A 5K Run, intended to be a celebration of the coaching career of Southwick High School’s Dick Atkinson.

Coach A, a 1984 inductee into the Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association Hall of Fame, is a legend among runners in Western Massachusetts. During his 53-year tenure at Southwick he trained numerous WMass, State, and New England individual champions and earned numerous league and divisional team championships. Coach Atkinson is the founder of indoor track in the Pioneer Valley, a league which has grown to 27 teams. Proceeds from the race will be used to fund scholarships for runners and to promote youth running programs in Western Mass.

Babe Ruth Fall Ball

The Franklin County Babe Ruth Baseball Association will hold registrations for its Fall Baseball League on two upcoming dates:

On Saturday the league will hold registrations from 10 a.m. until noon, and on Sunday and the league will hold registrations from 1 until 3 p.m. All registration sessions will take place at Abercrombie Field in Greenfield.

The Fall League is open to anyone ages 12 through 14. Babe Ruth is the next step for those players aging out of Cal Ripken next season and Fall Ball is a great introduction to a full-size diamond.
