Olivia Whittier’s perfect 4-for-4 night helped the Turners Falls Invaders to a 22-3 win over Frontier in a 14U Suburban League softball game Tuesday night at the Bourdeau Fields Complex in Turners Falls.
Catie Reynolds was 3-for-3 with a home run to help the host Invaders (10-1) to a win, while Taylor Murphy also had three hits. Emily Young earned the victory in the pitching circle, striking out five batters on the night.
Charlotte Doulette and Makayla Santos paced the Frontier offense with a hit each.
The Invaders are back in action Thursday when they host Easthampton at 7, while Frontier hosts Athol tonight in South Deerfield.
• In other 14U action, the Greenfield Grizzlies snatched victory from the jaws of defeat by roaring back with four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat visiting Westfield, 4-3, under the lights at Vets Field in Greenfield.
Trailing 3-0 and down to their last three outs, Hannah Marchefka started the walk-off rally with a single and moved to second on a Gianna Conte walk, setting the stage for a two-run double by Alexis Farrick that brought the Grizzlies to within a run at 3-2.
Then Kelsey Richardson’s two-bagger drove in Farrick to tie it, 3-3, before Bella Benoit belted a walk-off double, scoring Richardson.
Winning pitcher Carme was the beneficiary of the seventh-inning heroics. She went the route, allowing three hits, walking two and fanning 6.
• In 12U action Tuesday, Julia Hioe struck out seven and allowed just one hit while also clubbing three hits (double) and three RBI to send Frontier Red to a 16-4 win over Easthampton at Merritt Field in Sunderland.
Gia Gottschalk laced two hits, including a two-run double, while Holly Myers added two hits and three RBI. Lucia Doulette, Georgia Sackrey, Hailey Hutkoski and Madison McKemmie all had a hit and drove in a run for the Red.
Frontier (6-5) travels to Veterans Memorial Field to play the Greenfield Grizzlies tonight at 7 p.m.
• In other 12U action, Jillian Apanell struck out six in a complete-game effort in the pitching circle, but Frontier Blue dropped a heartbreaker to SoHo Heat, 9-8, in an eight-inning affair Tuesday at Parker Field in Southampton.
Apanell also had a pair of doubles to pace Frontier Blue at the dish. Kylie Laford registered a double, while Daisy Venditti and Kaelyn Zakaitis each singled.
Frontier Blue (5-5) is right back at it tonight when it hosts Easthampton at Merritt Field.
