BUCKLAND — A couple who recently moved to town from Lexington, Ky., were recently appointed to fill vacancies on town boards.
Alex Meade of School Street has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the Conservation Commission and his wife, Clarissa Spawn, will be serving an unexpired term on the Planning Board. She will be replacing Kenneth Hoeppner, who resigned from the board this month.
Meade is a retired engineer, with 35 years of experience, who said his scientist father had taught him the importance of water conservation.
Spawn worked as an IBM programmer for 10 years and also was a teacher and artist.
The selectboard welcomed them to their new offices and voted to send Hoeppner a letter thanking him for his service on the Planning Board.
BUCKLAND — The first day of school for Mohawk Trail Regional School (Grades 7 through 12) is on Aug. 30, but new students must register for enrollment by Aug. 18.
