ATHOL — An Athol man is accused of secretly taking graphic photographs of a woman and threatening to use them against her after she accused him of stealing her video game console.

Matthew C. Duguay, 30, of 298 School St., pleaded innocent in Orange District Court on Monday to charges of receiving stolen property under $250, secret sexual surveillance (photographing), secret sexual surveillance (dissemination) and witness intimidation. He was released on personal recognizance.

A woman who said she once dated Duguay contacted authorities on March 8 to report she believed Duguay stole her Sony PlayStation 4. Officer Christopher Bisceglia recovered the stolen items from the GameStop store at 376 Timpany Blvd. in Gardner on March 26. The woman identified the man on a store camera recording trading the console for cash as Duguay, and Duguay’s name was on the transaction’s receipt, police said.

On March 30, the woman contacted the police to report that Duguay texted her sexually explicit pictures she believes were taken of her while she slept. Duguay reportedly said he was not afraid to “use them” if she continued to “lie” about him.

Duguay is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on June 23.
