GREENFIELD — Town planners have thrown their support behind a temporary moratorium on recreational marijuana facilities.
The Planning Board voted Thursday night to recommend an ordinance to the Town Council that would temporarily prohibit recreational marijuana facilities in town until zoning guidelines can be established. If the town doesn’t take any action, such facilities could be built anywhere in Greenfield.
“The Massachusetts Municipal Association and Massachusetts Lawyers Association both recommended towns immediately adopt a moratorium on recreational marijuana,” town Director of Planning and Development Eric Twarog said.
The moratorium will disappear in 18 months or once future zoning regulations are approved — whichever comes first.
Town Council is expected to vote on the moratorium during its May meeting.
