Julia Kovalsick struck out eight in the circle and had a single and a double at the plate to lead the Northfield/Erving Tigers to a 15-1 win over Hinsdale in a Tri-County League softball game Tuesday night at Zilinski Field in Erving.
Olivia Hammond also pitched in the win, striking out three, and adding a single. Sofia Walker doubled, and Hailey Haughey and Laura Kahler each had a hit.
• In other action, Sofia Holden and Taylor Ruder pitched the Northfield Cougars to a 13-7 win over Brattleboro Tuesday night in Brattleboro.
The duo combined to strike out seven, while Holden added a two-run single at the plate and Ruder notched a pair of singles and an RBI.
Jaida Barry also had a two-run single, while Kathie Fuller added an RBI single for the Cougars.

Kameryn Dearborn struck out 11 in four innings and also delivered a single to lead Conte Office Interior to a 8-5 win over Crocker Communications in a Greenfield Girls’ Softball League Ponytail Division game Tuesday at Murphy Park.
Amber Bergeron, Morgan Dobias and Ainslee Flynn each had one hit in the win.
Lillia Kachelmeyer struck out nine in three innings and also had a hit for Crocker. Emma Rose had three strikeouts in three innings and also added a hit, and Kelly Baird added a hit.

Daniel Pena-Chadee earned the win on the mound and also had a pair of hits to help Rotary Club to a 10-2 win over Smitty’s Pub in Greenfield Minor League AAA Division game Tuesday night at Lunt Field in Greenfield.
Kendra Campbell and Jaida Menard each added a hit and pitched in relief for Rotary.
Silas Muzzy led Smitty’s with two hits, and Jackson Petrin and Preston Lafleur had a hit apiece.
• In other action, Jonathan Ainsworth went 2-for-3 with a triple to lead Nap’s Auto Sales & Service to a 15-12 win over Freedom Credit Union.
Heath Gomez went 2-for-3 and pitched well for Nap’s, and Joe Kirley had a hit and struck out three on the mound.
Tyler Yetter had a hit and pitched three innings for Freedom. Matt Stiles doubled, and Caleb Johnston had a hit and played stellar defense in center field.
• Finally, Brayden Thayer pitched five innings of one-run ball and also had a hit to lead Aubuchon Hardware to a 11-1 win over Tognarelli Heating & Cooling.
Luca Siano had three hits, including two doubles and three RBIs, for Aubuchon, and Ethan Mauthe had a double.
Dillon Gagnon had two doubles for Tognarelli, and Ethan Quinn and Matt Garvin each had a hit.
Frontier Cal Ripken
Max Banack-Skribiski struck out four and added a double at the plate to lift Sokoloski Landscaping in a 3-2 loss to Hatfield in the Frontier Cal Ripken League at Old Deerfield Field in South Deerfield on Tuesday night.
Tavo Vincent-Warner pitched one inning with two strikeouts, and he added an RBI single for Sokoloski.
Mohawk Youth Baseball
Owen Taylor and Emaline Drury combined to pitch Ashfield to a 15-0 shutout of Chesterfield in a Mohawk Youth Baseball League minor league victory on Monday night.
The lone hit of the game for Ashfield came on a single by Oliver Johnson.
• In other minor league action on Monday, Buckland/Shelburne’s Grayson Bishop powered his team to a 15-6 win over Rowe thanks to a pair of hits.
Jack Phillips added a hit and two runs scored, while Jackson Morey contributed a two-run single. Tanner Jenks contribute six strikeouts on the mound for Buckland/Shelburne.
Leading the way for Rowe offensively with hits were Kameron Crowningshield, Maggie Danek, and Owen Heilman. Maggie Danek and Kameron Crowningshield combined for four strikeouts.
• In major league opening action on Saturday, Colrain edged Ashfield, 5-4, with Deven Buchanan tossing six innings on the mound and allowing just two hits and no earned runs. Buchanan was also 3-for-3 at the plate.
Ashfield’s Ben Thompson, Will Sussbauer and Logan Moore combined to strike out 12 on the hill.
• Bishop and Jenks led Buckland/Shelburne to a 10-7 win over Ashfield in minor action on Saturday. The pair combined for 11 strikeouts.
Post 81 tryouts
The Greenfield Post 81 American Legion Baseball program will hold tryouts for its Senior and Junior Division teams on several upcoming days at Veterans Memorial Field in Greenfield.
Tryouts will take place on Saturday, Sunday and May 13. Senior Division players (ages 19 and under as of Dec. 31, 2017) will meet at 1 p.m. each day, while Junior Division players (ages 17 and under as of Dec. 31, 2017) will meet at 3 p.m. All players will meet at 3 p.m. on May 13 (no 1 p.m. tryouts) and the teams will be selected and players notified that evening.
Players from all Franklin County schools are eligible to try out and should bring glove, cleats and birth certificate. Players from previous a Post 81 roster must attend tryouts to be eligible and players should make as many tryouts as possible.

Four Rivers wins
Tim Stuart’s work on both ends of the field powered the Four Rivers Charter School ultimate team to a 13-5 victory over the Amherst Regional High School JV team on Tuesday afternoon.
Four Rivers trailed 5-2 before rattling off the final 11 points en route to the lopsided victory.
“We played a good, strong zone defense,” Four Rivers coach Terry Plotkin said.
Next up for the squad is its annual Four Rivers Tournament on Saturday and Sunday at Greenfield Community College. The event will feature 38 teams from across the state, and action kicks off Saturday at 9 a.m.
CC of G Ladies
Maggie Valentine shot a low gross 42 in the A Division during the Country Club of Greenfield’s Monday Night Ladies League.
Liz Archer won low net with a 33. Sue Luippold shot a 51 to win low gross in the B Division, and Sue McDonald won low net with a 40. Shelly Uguccioni won low gross in the C Division with a 57, while Donna Mowry won low net with a 37.
CC of Greenfield jr. program
The Country Club of Greenfield is offering a new junior program designed to expose golf to juniors of all ability levels. The junior camp, featuring the PGA Sports Academy powered by United Healthcare curriculum, will help youth learn to play golf and have fun in the process. The series will be offered by PGA/LPGA Professionals in a group environment.
The camp will take place throughout the week of June 26-30 (no session on June 29). Each session will provide equipment and golf experiences, fitness and nutrition knowledge, and plenty of opportunity for on-and-off course athletics. Golf skills will be the basis for learning, along with sportsmanship and open play.

Erving League at Northfield
Trevor Blake and Dennis Fournier combined for a total of 37 to score low-gross honors in the Erving League Tuesday at the Northfield Golf Club.
John Hodgman and Ken Dixon won the low net contest with a low score of 29.
The closest to the pin on the par 3, sixth hole was Rodney Ebbighausen at 34 feet, 7 inches. Paul Barnard was the closest on No. 7 at 17-9.
Match medalist for the evening’s event was Rodney Ebbighausen with a score of 39.
The league welcomes new members.
Frontier golf outing
The Frontier Regional School golf team will be hosting its annual golf outing on May 26 at Cherry Hill Golf Course in Amherst.

Deerfield Rotary benefit
The inaugural Putt and Pour Tournament to benefit the Deerfield Valley Rotary Club will be played on June 9 at 10:30 a.m. at Mount Snow Golf Club in West Dover, Vt.

Vaultapalooza on tap
The annual Vaultapalooza competition will take place Sunday at 1 p.m. at Pioneer Valley Regional School in Northfield.
The competition features various high school pole vaulters in western Mass. and is free to watch.

GHS meat raffle
The Greenfield High School football team will hold a Meat Raffle on May 13 at 7 p.m. at the Greenfield Elks Lodge.
The raffle features $800 worth of meat and $200 worth of seafood and consists of ribs, steaks, hams, bacon, kielbasa, hamburger, lobsters, scallops and shrimp.
The way the raffle works is that a table with approximately 12 to 14 items will be unveiled and raffle tickets will be sold. Tickets will be drawn and the person with the winning ticket will choose an item off the table. Tickets will continue to be drawn until the table is cleared. At that point, another table will be unveiled containing another 12 to 14 items and tickets will be sold again. There figures to be four tables worth of meat that night.
Tickets cost $1 for one, $2 for three, $5 for seven and $10 for 15. The football team has teamed up with Foster’s Supermarket, Richardson’s and Sigda’s Flowers. There will also be candy prizes on hand.
UMass lax set for CAA tourney
The University of Massachusetts men’s lacrosse team will be the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Colonial Athletic Association Championships and will face No. 2 Hofstra in the semifinal round at No. 1 seed and host Towson at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The game will be broadcast live by Lax Sports Network.
Drexel, Hofstra and Massachusetts all finished tied for second in the CAA standings at 3-2, which forced the trio into a goal differential three-way, tie-breaker. Hofstra, with the highest goal differential during CAA play, earned the No. 2 seed. The Minutemen then collected No. 3 by virtue of their Senior Night win over Drexel.
The winners of UMass-Hofstra and Towson-Drexel meet in the 2017 CAA Championship Game at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
