WENDELL — Daniel Keller’s life in Wendell started when he bought a farm.
Keller moved to town in 1969 after graduating from Amherst College and teamed with a group of friends to purchase the small farm on Cold Brook Road, where he lives today. He is now a seasoned veteran of municipal service, running for re-election to the Selectboard.
“I’ve been onboard for 15 years and I do enjoy it a lot,” he said. “I get a lot of satisfaction out of solving problems for the residents, resolving disputes, creating opportunities for careful development of the town and working with all the other town officials.”
He said he previously served 17 years on the Wendell Finance Committee.
Keller said he wants to focus on ensuring the town does its best to bring high-speed internet connection to every home in Wendell.
“But at the same time, I’m also concerned about the cost and I want to make sure all the options for getting this service to the homes are looked at carefully, including the ones where the town doesn’t pay any money,” he said.
Keller explained there is a proposal from Matrix Design Group, a private corporation, to build and partially finance a network, with the rest of the costs covered by Wendell’s share of Massachusetts Broadband Institute money.
Keller said internet access is important from economic and educational points of view. “Kids now are using up more and more megabits than they ever were before,” he said.
He also said the internet is useful for small-town residents who are homebound and must communicate with a medical professional.
In 1975, Keller joined with two partners in creating Green Mountain Post Films, a film production company mainly focusing on documentaries.
