ASHFIELD — Stonemasons Jim and Bill Vieira of Ashfield continue their hunt for the Lost Colony of Roanoke, in “Return to Roanoke: Search for the Seven” which will be broadcast Sunday night, March 26, at 9 p.m. on the History Channel.
Both Vieira brothers and show producer, John Marks of Northampton, will be at the Ashfield Lake House Sunday night, to discuss the show. The viewing of the program and the discussion will take place at the restaurant, at 141 Buckland Road (628-0158), from 9 to 11 p.m.
This is the Vieira brothers’ second History Channel special on the disappearance of 117 colonists from Roanoke Island, Va., in 1587.
The first show, a two-hour special, has been condensed to an hour and will be televised at 8 p.m., according to Vieira.
In the earlier show, the two investigated the controversial “Dare Stone,” that was reportedly found by a tourist in 1937 and purportedly tells the fate of the disappeared colonists.
By analyzing the inscription on the mysterious Dare Stone against the 400-year-old historical record, and by lining up passages on the stone with clues left behind by Capt. John Smith of Jamestown, the Vieiras search for evidence that could reveal the location of the Lost Colony, according to the History Channel’s description of the new program.
In 2014, the Vieiras were featured in a six-part series by the History Channel called “Search for the Lost Giants.” Last year, Jim Vieira and Hugh Newman co-authored a book called “Giants on Record: America’s Hidden History. Secrets in the Mounds and the Smithsonian Files.”
For several years, Jim Vieira has given talks about ancient manmade stone formations and the reported findings of giant human bones in this region and elsewhere.
