GREENFIELD — The League of Women Voters of Franklin County, the new chapter of the nonpartisan grassroots organization forming in the region, has announced the details for its second meeting, which will be held on Sunday.
It will be at 1 p.m. at the Temple Israel on 27 Pierce St. in Greenfield, and is free and open to the public.
Of this next meeting, chapter organizer Marie Gauthier of Shelburne Falls says, “Our first meeting was energizing, but now it’s time to get to work.”
Inspired by the recent election and a desire to contribute to the community, nearly 40 people met on Jan. 6 at the Arms Library in Shelburne Falls to discuss the possibility of forming a new chapter of the League of Women Voters, which has never had a Franklin County League. This second meeting will be attended by the Massachusetts State League’s Membership Chairwoman Marilyn Peterson, who will discuss best practices and the next steps toward state recognition. Evaluating goals and action priorities will also be on the agenda.
The League encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues and to influence public policy through education and advocacy. The League works to provide objective information on critical public policy issues and conduct debates and forums to increase awareness of candidates seeking office.
