Turners Falls High School running back Quinn Doyle picked up one final piece of football hardware Sunday.

Doyle was named the Intercounty League North Division Most Valuable Player award winner and was handed the award during the league’s season-ending banquet at the Montague Elks Lodge in Turners Falls.

Doyle finished with 300 carries for 1,500 yards for the WMass Division IV-A champion Indians, who finished 11-1 last season. The award is sponsored by The Recorder.

Doyle’s teammate, Tahner Castine, was named the Gilmore & Farrell Insurance Lineman of the Year at the banquet, giving the Indians the clean sweep.

Gilmore/Farrell Squirts win

Cam Skiffington scored three times Sunday to lead Franklin County Hockey Association Gilmore & Farrell Insurance to a 6-1 win over Ludlow in a Greater Springfield League Squirt White Division game at Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield.

Gigi Grima had one goal and two assists in the win, and Matt Garvin and Sailor Cohen each had a goal and an assist. Grayson Loos and Preston LaFleur each had an assist, and Griffin Mariani, Jackson Caron, Porter Hall, Campbell Ardrey and LaFleur played solid on defense and limited Ludlow to only three shots.

Anson Prunier made 2 saves to earn the win.

Dillon’s Vipers tie

Matt Lavoine scored twice Sunday, including once on a penalty shot, and FCHA Dillon Chevrolet Vipers tied Keene, 3-3, in a GSL Peewee North Division hockey game Sunday in Keene, N.H.

Eathon Bryant also scored for Dillon’s, and MJ Paulin, Kam Tompkins, Shane Prusak and Matt Provencal all had assists. Trevor Parkinson played well in net and stopped 18 saves, while Dylan Archer, Lila Roche, Hunter Smith, Brodie Gagne and Paulin were strong on defense.

• On Saturday, Braeden Killeen, Prusak and Lavoine each scored but the Vipers suffered a 5-3 loss to Springfield Capitals at Cyr Arena in Springfield.

Paulin, Provencal and Roche each had an assist, and Parkinson made 16 saves.

J & J Hockey clipped

Jamison Baleno potted a pair of goals Sunday but FCHA J & J Hockey suffered a 5-4 loss to Amherst in a GSL Peewee East Division game in Greenfield.

Billy Woodall had a goal and an assist in the loss, and Ethyn Clayton had a goal. Ben Carlan had two assists, Shea Savage, Sam DeJackome and Dylan Mahar each had an assist, and Will Cowie made 19 saves.

Meet 4 results

Mohawk Trail Regional High School continued to impress individually during meet No. 4 of the PVIAC Indoor Track & Field season Friday at Smith College in Northampton.

Results were not made available until after deadline Sunday night.

The Warriors boys split their meets, beating Pope Francis High School, 47-43, and losing to South Hadley High School, 58-37.

Seth Hoynoski garnered a pair of top-3 finishes, taking second in the 300 meters in 38.38 seconds, and third in the 55-meter hurdles (8.65). Ben White placed sixth in the 600 meters (1:36.75) and seventh in the long jump (18 feet, 2½ inches).

Zach Goodell finished fifth in the shot put (35-2), and the boys’ 4×400 meter relay team won in 3:46.53.

Mohawk’s girls were swept by Pope Francis (51-41) and South Hadley (81-14), but Meghan Davis had another good night with a win in the 2-mile (11:38.19), a runner-up finish in the mile (5:38.75) and a fourth in the 1,000 meters (3:23.15).

In the early session, the Athol High School girls went 2-1, beating Greenfield High School (53-32) and High School of Commerce (53-29), while losing to Mahar Regional School (67-28). Pioneer Valley Regional School split, as it downed Greenfield (52-33), but lost to Southwick-Tolland Regional High School (69-26).

The top individual performer was Greenfield’s Amy O’Sullivan, who won the 2-mile (12:14.41) and took fifth in the mile (5:55.17).

Mahar’s Kamryn Reilly earned a pair of thirds in the high jump (4-6) and long jump (15-5½) and an eighth in the 55 meters (8.11). Teammate Anna Wetherbee placed fourth in the 600 meters (1:52.70), Marie Nottleson came in fifth in the 55-meter hurdles (10.66) and eighth in the long jump (13-9½), Emma Currier was sixth in the 2-mile (13:01.11) and seventh in the mile (6:04.23), and Jordyn Berry wound up eighth in the high jump (4-2).

Greenfield’s Jamie Day finished seventh in the 2-mile (13:20.53) and Athol’s Shelby Mailloux was eighth in the 1,000 meters (3:44.23).

On the boys’ side, Athol also went 2-1 with wins over Greenfield (52-41) and Commerce (50-37), and a loss to Mahar (62-33), while Pioneer beat Greenfield (49-45) and lost to Southwick (65-30).

The Red Raiders were led by Mason Barrieau, who won the 600 meters (1:26.34) and came in fourth in the 55 hurdles (8.95). Kris Selanis captured top honors in the shot put (44-4), Zack Bergquist was fifth in the mile (5:08.41), and the 4×400 relay team was third (3:56.93).

The Senators’ top finisher was Ash Shaw, who broke the school record in the 600 meters while finishing third (1:28.57), and he also added a third in the high jump (5-2). Aaron Hendry added a third in the 55 hurdles (8.94), Andrew Hill took sixth in the 1,00 meters (2:59.72), John Nye was sixth in the shot put (37-0), Seth Mtitchell placed eighth in the high jump (5-0), and the 4×400 relay finished second (3:56.66).

For Greenfield, Silvian Popusoi tied for fourth in the high jump with teammate Mike Aras (5-2), and added sixth-place finishes in the long jump (18-1½) and 55 hurdles (9.19), and Dylan Badillo was eighth in the 2-mile (11:35.47).

Pioneer top finisher was Scott McDonough, who took third in the long jump (19-½).
