ATHOL — The telecommunications disruption between Verizon’s landline communications and Time Warner Cable phone communications seems to have been resolved. The North Quabbin Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Bureau reported Wednesday that Verizon customers in the greater Athol-Orange area were experiencing only a rapid “busy signal” tone when dialing anyone using TWC as their telephone provider. However, representatives from both companies said they were told the problem had been fixed by the afternoon.
Mark Wright, executive director of the Chamber, said he had been contacted by numerous health care providers concerned their patients could not reach them because of the problem, which began at least as early as 7 a.m. Wednesday and likely started earlier. Wright asked six locations to call the Chamber when their issue had been resolved and he said four had contacted him by roughly 2 p.m.
Wright said he knew of people who had been affected in Athol, Orange, New Salem and Royalston.
Andrew Russell, the communications director for Charter Communications’ Northeast region, said the issue was on Verizon’s end. Charter formally took control of TWC in May 2016.
Michael Murphy, who works in public relations for Verizon, did not have an answer as to what caused the disruption.
