Pothole Pictures in Shelburne Falls will kick off the new year with a screening of the 2013 musical documentary, “Twenty Feet From Stardom,” on Friday, Jan. 13, and Saturday, Jan. 14.
It’s the story of pop music’s background singers — those who have entertained us for many years, albeit many time anonymously and underheralded.
The documentary contains interviews and performances by Bruce Springsteen, Mick Jagger, Stevie Wonder and Sting. It is both a joyful ode to the background singers and an unflinching portrayal of a tough life — lousy pay, failed solo careers and hard times on the road.
The film is directed by Morgan Neville and runs 91 minutes. It is rated PG.
Showtime is at 7:30 p.m both nights.
There will be live music on stage both nights at 7. On Jan. 13, Dick Moulding will play piano rags, and on Jan. 14, Jim Eagan will perform solo guitar and vocals.
Admission is $4 for children and $6 for adults.
The film will be shown in Memorial Hall, 51 Bridge St., Shelburne Falls, is heated and accessible.
