GREENFIELD — In addition to its ongoing programs, the YMCA in Greenfield is rolling out several new fitness and wellness programs and offerings in January.
Jayne Trosin, fitness and social responsibility director, said, “January is a great time of the year for people to evaluate their life and health and decide to make changes for the better.”
The Y’s adult fitness departments are offering six new programs that will help men and women with a variety of health issues. The programs are Water Fitness for Breast Cancer Survivors, Brain Based Yoga therapy for chronic pain, a four-week Hypnomotivation Class, Osteoporosis Class and the “What’s Your Weight Loss Obstacle?”
Participants can choose the nine-week exercise program or the nine-week nutrition program or combine the two and get a discount. On Jan. 7 at 9 a.m., Trosin will hold an information session about these new programs. Details are also available at ymcaingreenfield.org.”
Dave Garappolo, youth and family director, said, “I have added two new youth fitness programs that are not youth sports but programs for 6- to 12-year-olds who want to have fun exercising twice a week. ”
The first program is Activities & Games Class, which meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the gym, and the other is Healthy Kids Class, which meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 7 p.m. in the gym and 7 to 7:30 p.m. in the Kid Fit Center.
Garappolo added, “For adults we are adding badminton to our gym schedule on Tuesday and Thursdays from 5:30 to 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This will be free for Y members and $10 per visit for nonmembers.”
For families, the Y has expanded the hours of its low cost in-house babysitting/child-watch service. In January, there will be additional hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:45 to 11:15 a.m. as well as Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., Monday through Friday from 4:30 to 7 p.m. plus Saturdays from 8:15 to 10:15 a.m. This is for children ages 8 weeks to 5 years.
Trosin added, “Jan. 2 through 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. each day, the Y is providing free activities for families with children ages 6 to 14 to come and try the Y.”
From Jan. 9 to 13, from 11 to 3 p.m., the Y is offering free activities for those 50 and over. Activities include swimming, group exercise classes, cardio and strength machines and many social activities like bingo and cards.
