ATHOL — An Athol man was held without bail after police alleged he assaulted his wife for the second time in fewer than two years.
Robert Davis, 45, of 399 Hapgood Street, apt. 4, appeared in Orange District Court on Friday and pleaded innocent to one count of threatening to commit crime, one count of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and one count of assault and battery on a family/household member, subsequent offense.
According to a report from Athol Police Officer Corey Chauvette, he was working the downtown beat on Nov. 16 when at 7:08 p.m. he was dispatched to a Hapgood Street residence for a disturbance. Someone called the police to report a man threatening his life. Chauvette and Sgt. Jarrett Mousseau met the reporting person, who said Davis was at the end of his driveway yelling, “I will end your life tonight, you faggot.”
Police said the caller told them Davis was upset because Davis’ wife spends time with him. The wife told police Davis had been drinking and had kicked her in the back. She showed officers several red marks in the middle and on the left and right sides of her back.
Davis was taken to the Athol Police Department and booked. Because this is a subsequent offense for Davis with the same victim, cash bail was set at $15,040 until Davis appeared before a judge on Nov. 18.
Davis has a detention hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
