Writers’ Lunch: Monday through Thursday, anytime from noon to 2 p.m., bring your laptop or notebook and lunch to the LeVanway Meeting Room for self-directed writing time.

Open for Business: Mondays and Fridays from 2 to 5 p.m., telecommuters and local business people looking for reliable Wi-Fi and a quiet workspace are invited to use the library’s LeVanway Meeting Room.

Reading Relay Read Aloud Storytime: Each Monday from 4 to 5 p.m. Reading Relay Read Aloud storytime for all ages will feature a new theme with puppets, felt board stories and short plays during an hour when everyone reads. Come and listen or take part in the reading. Suggested for readers elementary age and above and, of course, younger listeners.

Mother Goose on the Loose: Tuesdays and Fridays from 10-11 a.m., join Kay Lyons at a lap-sit story hour for children age 3 and under, with a grown-up. Kay reads books, leads the group in hand rhymes, and uses puppets to teach animal sounds and other concepts new to the very young. Each session is 45 minutes, with half an hour of structured activity and about fifteen minutes of visiting time.

Young Writers Group: Author and teacher Nell Wright works with young writers ages 10 to 14 on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month during the school year in the Greenfield Room from 4-5 p.m. The group is limited to 8 participants and preregistration is required. First Wednesday Speaker Series: On Wednesday at 6 p.m., Tom Goldscheider will present “At Sword’s Point: The Labor History of Greenfield.” He tells this remarkable story from the perspective of the men and women who worked in its plants making tools to exacting standards for more than a century, building on archival materials at the Museum of Our Industrial Heritage, UE Local 274, and personal connections with retired union organizers and members. This program is funded in part by Mass Humanities, which receives support from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and is an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. First Wednesday Speakers programs, sponsored by the Friends of Greenfield Public Library, are free.

Chess Club: Every Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:45 p.m., come to the library to play chess. The last Wednesday of each month will feature a speed chess tournament. Contact: calderrossi@gmail.com.

Writers’ Lunch Workshop: On Fridays from noon to 2 p.m., Jane Buchanan and Joannah Whitney offer a workshop of writing exercises and discussion as well as an opportunity to share what has been written. Participants are also encouraged to attend the open writing periods during the week. There is no charge for the workshop and registration is not required.
