Big Y is partnering with the American Red Cross to raise donations for those affected by Hurricane Matthew.
Through Oct. 29, Big Y customers and employees will have the opportunity to donate to American Red Cross disaster relief at all Big Y locations throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut. Donation containers will be available at all Big Y registers. The funds raised will support people in the communities affected by Hurricane Matthew.
“The devastating effects of Hurricane Matthew are still causing great suffering in several states, including North Carolina, where deadly floods have cut off entire communities,” said Ralph Boyd, CEO of the American Red Cross of Massachusetts. “The Red Cross has mobilized 3,000 disaster workers, 155 response vehicles — nearly half of our total fleet — and more than 100 trailers filled with water, ready-to-eat meals, cots, blankets, kitchen items, cleaning supplies and comfort kits, insect repellant, gloves, masks, shovels, rakes, coolers and more.
Big Y has worked with the Red Cross for over a decade and raised $445,000 to support both international and domestic disasters.
