GREENFIELD — One hundred eighty bicyclists, runners and walkers in the ninth annual Wheeling for Healing event raised more than $46,500 to support cancer care and services at Baystate Franklin Medical Center.

The event sent bicyclists through rural Greenfield and surrounding communities, on 10-, 25- and 50-mile rides. Runners and walkers used a 5k course around Greenfield Community College and into the adjoining neighborhood.

Proceeds from the event will be used to buy medical equipment and comfort items for patients undergoing chemotherapy at the hospital. Wheeling for Healing proceeds have also assisted patients with extraordinary expenses associated with their illness, including medicines not covered by their insurance.

“A special congratulations to our top three fundraising teams — Cheryl’s Walkers, Team Ursula, and Team Bulkley, Richardson, and Gelinas,” said Kathy Tobin, director of annual giving at Baystate Health Foundation.

Donations are still being accepted through Dec. 31. To make a donation, go to baystatehealth.org/wheelingforhealing.
