GREENFIELD — Baystate Franklin Medical Center has been recognized with a national award for its stroke care.

The hospital received the Coverdell National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale Rating of 100 Percent award from the state Department of Health’s Paul Coverdell National Acute Stroke program, a federally funded collaboration between DPH and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that support stroke service hospitals.

The award recognizes hospitals that performed stroke scale assessments, which provide quantitative informaton of how a stroke has affected a person’s brain, on 100 percent of their stroke patients in 2015.

Strokes are the fourth leading cause of deaths in Massachusetts, and early treatment and assessment can help save lives and improve medical outcomes.

The hospital also recently received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s “Get With The Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Quality” achievement award. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment to providing the most appropriate stroke treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines based on the latest scientific evidence.

This is Baystate Franklin’s fourth consecutive year earning a Gold Plus rating, according to a press release.
