SUNDERLAND — A few towns in Franklin County have been awarded a state grant to help upgrade aging computers.
State Rep. Stephen Kulik tweeted that the town has been awarded more than $24,000.
More than 50 cities and towns received the grant, among them Deerfield, which has been awarded $45,000 to install a high-speed link between the town offices and the South County Senior Center. The town will also build a secure data center to store important information.
Sunderland will use the grant for infrastructure upgrades, which have been recommended by the Division of Local Services, a state-run organization that works to streamline government processes and save taxpayers money.
“I am very pleased that the Baker-Polito administration awarded the Town of Sunderland $24,534 from the Community Compact IT Grant Program,” Kulik said. “This grant money will go a long way in helping bring the town into the 21st century by upgrading the outdated and aging computer network, making government more efficient and more innovative.”
The grant helps cities and towns upgrade and improve information technology infrastructure, including computer hardware and software.
Athol, Buckland, Charlemont, Colrain and Hawley also received smaller grants for similar improvements.
