BUCKLAND — Townspeople will be asked to re-elect eight incumbents and two new candidates seeking office in the annual town election on Monday. The Town Hall polls open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. There are no election contests on this year’s ballot.

Kevin P. Fox is seeking re-election to his three-year Selectboard seat. Fox has been away, due to illness, but has been staying informed of Selectboard issues, and is looking forward to returning soon, according to fellow board members.

Also running for re-election to three-year terms are the following officials: Board of Assessors Marion E. Scott; Buckland Library Trustee George L. Dole; two Finance Committee members Karen Blom and Paula Consolo; Mohawk Trail Regional School District Committee member Martha J. Thurber; and Constable Arthur Henry Phillips.

Town Moderator Phoebe Walker is also seeking re-election to her one-year post.

Jeffrey A. Purinton of Bray Road is running for a three-year term as Tree Warden, and Martha P. Taft-Ferguson of Martin Road is running for the Board of Health, a three-year term.

The ballot asks voters to approve a $295,292 Proposition 2½ levy limit debt exclusion, which will be used to pay for the town’s share of asbestos abatement, floor replacement, brick repairs and other work at the Buckland Shelburne Elementary School. A debt exclusion temporarily raises tax rates until the project is paid off.

In a budget statement, the Finance Committee said the money would probably cost Buckland about $32,000 per year, for a five-year loan, and that the loan will not have a budget impact until fiscal year 2018.
