Writers’ Lunch: Monday through Thursday anytime from noon to 2 p.m., bring your laptop or notebook and lunch to the LeVanway Meeting Room for self-directed writing time.
Open for Business: Mondays and Fridays from 2-5 p.m., telecommuters and local business people looking for reliable Wi-Fi and a quiet workspace are invited to use the library’s LeVanway Meeting Room.
Afterschool Read-Aloud: Every Monday from 4 to 5 p.m., kids of all ages will love read-aloud story hour at the library Children’s Librarian Kay Lyons or a guest reader will read picture books, folk tales, or passages from favorite chapter books. Mother Goose on the Loose: Tuesdays and Fridays from 10-11 a.m., join Kay Lyons at a lap-sit story hour for children age 3 and under, with a grown-up. Kay reads books, leads the group in hand rhymes, and uses puppets to teach animal sounds and other concepts new to the very young. Each session is 45 minutes, with half an hour of structured activity and about fifteen minutes of visiting time.
Public Forum for the Library Building Committee: Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., Greenfield Public Library will hold a public forum on the library building project beginning with a presentation by library representatives and Johnson Roberts Architecture firm, followed by a Q&A session in the LeVanway Meeting Room.
Young Writers Group: On the second and fourth Wednesday of each month during the school year, writers ages 10-14 are invited to work with author and teacher Nell Wright in the library’s Greenfield Room from 4-5 p.m. The group is limited to 8 participants and registration is required. First Wednesday Speaker Series: New England Stone Walls: At 6 p.m. on Wednesday in the LeVanway Meeting Room, Kevin Gardner, a builder and restorer of traditional New England stone walls and author of “The Granite Kiss,” will explain how and why New England came to acquire its thousands of miles of stone walls, the ways in which they and other dry stone structures were built, how their styles emerged and changed over time, and their significance to the famous New England landscape. Along the way, Gardner will construct a miniature wall or walls on a tabletop, using tiny stones from a five-gallon bucket. Sponsored by the Friends of Greenfield Public Library.
Writers’ Lunch Workshop: On Fridays from noon to 2 p.m., Jane Buchanan and Joannah Whitney offer a workshop which includes writing exercises and discussion as well as an opportunity to share what has been written. Participants are encouraged to attend the open writing periods during the week as well. There is no charge for the workshop and registration is not required.
