High Schools: Jakhia Williams propels Turners girls track past Athol

Jahkia Williams had a big day for the Turners Falls girls track and field team on Tuesday during a meet against Athol. 

Williams won the long jump (13 feet, 2.25 inches), 100-meter dash (13.4 seconds) and 200 (29.5), helping the Thunder pull out a 114-17 triumph in Turners Falls. 

Other Turners winners were Tristan Bliss in the discus (77-6), Laken Woodard in the javelin (61-0), Ripley Dresser in the high jump (4-4) and 800 (3:11), Maddie Brandl in the triple jump (25-4.5), Ella Guidaboni in the 100 hurdles (20.7) and 400 hurdles (92.4), Sophia Moreno in the mile (8:42), Taylor Youmell in the 400 (78.4) and Dani Chagnon in the 2 mile (18:42).

The Thunder won the 4x100 (61.6) and 4x400 relays. 

Karleigh Chase won the shot put (28-3) for Athol. 

Boys track

Franklin Tech 91, Athol 37 — Cam Candelaria took the 100 (12.4) and 200 (24.8) while William Thomas won the 800 (2:39.1) and 2 mile (14:05), leading the Eagles past the Bears in Turners on Tuesday. 

Rounding out the Franklin Tech winners were Josiah Little in the long jump (17-9.5), Gabe Tomasi in the high jump (5-4), Logan Caron in the 110 hurdles (22.0) and 400 hurdles (1:15.6), Anthony Gallo in the mile (5:28.9) and Justin Lent in the 400 (65.2). The Eagles won the 4x400 (4:35.9) relay. 

For Athol, Nick LeBlanc won the shot put (39-5) and discus (139-4), Riley Reed took the javelin (108-8) and Alexander Masatis won the triple jump (26-2.5). The Bears won the 4x100 relay (60.4).

Ludlow 3, Frontier 1 — Aleks Carey smashed 21 kills and six aces for the Redhawks in a 25-23, 18-25, 25-19, 25-19 loss to the Lions at Goodnow Gymnasium Tuesday. 

Jack Carey put down 11 kills, Will Reading recorded five kills while Tavo Vincent-Warner dished 38 assists for Frontier. 

Boys tennis

PVCICS 5, Turners 0 — Mike Boyle fell 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1 singles for the Thunder in a loss to the Dragons on Tuesday in Hadley. 

Girls tennis

Palmer 5, Turners 0 —  Avery Heathwaite had the top match of the day for the Thunder, falling 2-6, 6-3, 13-11 in No. 2 singles in Turners’ loss to the Panthers on Tuesday in Turners.

Brattleboro 5, Frontier 0 — Caiden Manning dropped a 6-3, 6-2 match in No. 3 singles for the Redhawks in a loss to host Brattleboro on Monday.
