AMHERST — Frank Martin has finalized his roster, and the fourth-year UMass men’s basketball coach went out with a bang for his final commit.

Martin hit the transfer portal hard for most of his roster reconstruction over the month-plus of this offseason, but he added a four-star high school prospect who had previously been committed to Florida State in 6-foot-6 forward Dwayne Wimbley Jr. Wimbley weighs in at 210 pounds and was a top 150 recruit nationally when he originally committed to the Seminoles before de-committing earlier this month.

Wimbley is arguably Martin’s most talented high school recruit during his tenure in Amherst, and he began garnering buzz from NBA circles about his potential at the next level. When he reopened his recruitment, Martin and the Minutemen stuck out to him right away.

“I trust coach Frank Martin and his staff with my development,” Wimbley said. “… It feels like no matter what, he’s always going to look out for you and have your back no matter how things turn out.”

A native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and a member of the high school class of 2025, Wimbley helped St. Thomas Aquinas win its second-ever state championship in program history this past season. He is the No. 19 ranked player in the state of Florida.

With Wimbley now on board, Martin said his roster is officially complete. For scholarship players, UMass has Isaiah Placide, Donovan Brown, K’Jei Parker, Marcus Banks Jr., Danny Carbuccia, Jayden Ndjigue, Bilal Osman, Daniel Hankins-Sanford, Charles Outlaw, Dimitri Clerc, Luka Damjanac and now Wimbley.

“After the last six weeks, as we all adapt to [the] new norm in the spring, I’m proud to let UMass know that we’ve completed our roster,” Martin wrote. “We’ll have detailed information coming. Thank you to my staff for their detailed work. Also to [The Massachusetts Collective], [UMass Director of Athletics Ryan Bamford] and [Chancellor Javier Reyes] for [their] commitment.”
