Frontier Regional School moved to within one match of a perfect regular season as it defeated both Chicopee (21-3) and Palmer (18-6) in a dual golf match Tuesday afternoon at Cherry Hill Golf Course in Amherst.
The Red Hawks (14-0) close out the regular season against South Hadley (15-1) Thursday afternoon at 3 at the Ledges Golf Club in South Hadley. The team will then take its shot at the WMass Division 2 team title Monday at Ludlow Country Club.
Frontier did not have its best match of the season, as the Hawks did not have a golfer shoot in the 30s, which has been par for the team this season. That said, five of the Hawks’ six golfers shot 45 or lower to help earn the two wins.
“I think the layoff with all the cold weather and rain and everything hurt a little,” Frontier coach Bill Fitzpatrick said. “They were a little cold out of the gate, but they did what they’ve done all year and pulled it out. I knew I had a strong team this year and the kids are proving it.”
