GREENFIELD — At least one resident is expressing his solidarity with the City Council’s Thursday vote of no confidence in Mayor William Martin over dismissal of the city’s well-respected finance director.
Glenn Johnson stood at lunch time by the Greenfield Common with a handwritten sign reading, “Mayor Martin, You’re Fired!”
“Now it’s time for the citizens of Greenfield to ask for him to resign,” Johnson said, during his lunch break from work.
Johnson said the mayor’s ouster of Finance Director Elizabeth Braccia was “creating an intolerable situation.”
“It’s becoming not just a personality issue for somebody who’s difficult to work with, but a threat to the public good,” he said.
Johnson, who lost a write-in campaign for City Council in 2015, said he wouldn’t rule out a run for mayor. He reiterated a complaint some councilors this week leveled against Martin, that he was a bully as a manager.
Johnson said he is considering circulating a petition to call for the mayor’s resignation, following the request of some people who had passed him Friday afternoon.
