NEW SALEM — Monday’s election passed as expected, with a full slate of incumbents securing renewed terms.
There were no races on the ballot and four vacancies attracted no candidates: a five-year and a two-year term on the Planning Board and one-year partial terms on the Board of Assessors and School Committee. The Assessor and School Committee seats failed to attract succesful write-ins, and results were pending for the Planning Board seats at press time.
For the quiet ballot, 9.8 percent or 69 of the 707 registered voters turned out to exercise their franchise.
On the ballot, all incumbents and all elected to three-year terms unless otherwise noted:
Wayne Hachey, Selectboard; Lynn Layton, Board of Health; Stacy Senflug, town clerk; Calvin Layton, moderator; Alfred Ohlson, constable; Melissa Burke, School Committee; Judith Northup-Bennett, library trustees. Monica Winters, previously appointed to the library trustees, secured a one-year seat. David Briand will return to two boards to which he was previously appointed, the Board of Assessors and the School Committee.
