COLRAIN — Colrain Police are investigating the dumping of a load of tires onto the banks of the Green River, off North Green River Road.
Resident Herman Drost of North River Road said he was on his porch Tuesday morning, watching the river as two tires floated downstream.
Later, one of his neighbors told him that between 75 to 100 tires had been dumped down the river bank, about three-quarters of a mile north of where the pavement ends.
She showed him photographs of the tires and Drost went up to see for himself.
“It’s disgusting,” said Drost. He said many of the tires were very large, and some still had rims.
“It would be nice to tell people to keep their eyes open for activities like this,” he said.
Town Coordinator Kevin Fox said town police are investigating the issue and that they have ramped up police patrols of the area.
