Harriet Belknap (Thompson) Dyer

Colrain, MA – Harriet (Belknap) “Belle” Dyer passed away peacefully on 12/25/2025 at the age of 90. Born in Guilford, Vt., to Milo and Harriet (Davis) Thompson. Belle graduated from Franklin County Public Hospital School of Nursing, receiving a diploma then passing the boards to become a Registered Nurse.

Belle had many years of varied career experiences from CERT, HAM radio, MEMA, Colrain Ambulance, substitute school nursing and Colrain Board of Health. Belle started her career at the Franklin County Public Hospital in 1956 as a registered nurse then moving to the Veterans Hospital in Leeds MA. Meeting and marrying her husband Alvin Dyer in 1958. Starting their family in Readsboro, Vt., and eventually moving to Colrain to raise their 3 boys.

Belle “retired” in 1998 from Franklin Nursing and Rehab Center/Genesis Eldercare Center, leaving more time to volunteer, from flu clinics, teaching/training, and many committees and was active until she was 85.

Belle leaves her sons, David and his wife Barbara of Buckland, MA, Bill and his partner Stephanie Provencher of Goshen, as well as 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband Alvin 10/26/2023 and her son Raymond 4/22/2006.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in Belle’s memory are strongly encouraged, to the Colrain Ambulance Association, 51 Main Road, PO Box 37, Colrain, MA 01340. Services in celebration of “Belle’s” life, will take place in upon the arrival of warmer weather, with date, place and time to be announced. Interment will take place in the North River Cemetery, Colrain, MA.
